Job Description:
The History Department at Hobart and William Smith Colleges
invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor position in
nineteenth century U.S. History, beginning August 1, 2026. This is
a full-time, one-year position with a teaching load of five or six
courses per year. The appointment has the possibility for renewal
contingent on successful annual review and ongoing curricular
needs. We have a preference for research and upper division
teaching in religious and cultural history, women’s history, and/or
political history. The ability to teach courses that may cross-list
with programs such as American Studies, Gender, Sexuality, and
Intersectional Justice, or one of the College’s other
interdisciplinary programs is heavily encouraged. Candidates for
this position should have a Ph.D. or ABD in U.S. History by August
2026 and a record of or potential for excellence in undergraduate
