DetailsFusion Medical Staffing is seeking a skilled Surgical First
Assistant- Registered Nurset for a 13 week travel assignment in

- One year of recent experience as a Surgical First Assistant
RN
- Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA or CRNFA)
certifications
- Valid RN license in compliance with state regulation
- Current BLS (AHA/ ARC) CertificationPreferred Qualifications:
- ACLS (AHA/ARC) certifications
- Other certifications and licenses may be required for this
positionSummary:The Surgical First Assistant is responsible for
providing advanced care directly assisting surgeons throughout
surgical procedures. Responsibilities can include preoperative
patient assessment, intraoperative assistance, and postoperative
care management. The position requires exceptional surgical skills,
critical thinking abilities, excellent communication, and a
commitment to maintaining the highest standards of patient safety
and professional ethics in the operating room environment.
Essential Work Functions:
- Assist the surgeon during operative procedures by providing
exposure, hemostasis, and other technical functions that help the
surgeon perform a safe operation with optimal results for the
patient
- Position, prep, and drape patients for surgery according to
established protocols to ensure sterility and safety
- Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and surgical team by
providing the appropriate surgical instruments, supplies, and
equipment
- Perform wound closure, dressing application, and other
technical tasks as directed by the surgeon
- Maintain sterile techniques and promptly address any breaches
to ensure patient safety
- Monitor patient's condition intraoperatively, report changes to
the surgeon, and respond appropriately to emergent situations
- Observe and document patient information as needed within scope
of practice
- Actively participate in Universal Protocol and timeout to
confirm patient identity, procedure, surgical site and adhere to
all safety protocols
- Ensure the availability and functionality of surgical machines,
instruments, and implants, addressing any issues promptly
- Collaborate with the surgical team, including
anesthesiologists, circulating nurses, and scrub techs, to ensure
efficient workflow and patient safety
- Stay informed on advancements in surgical techniques, robotics,
and perioperative care through continuing education
- Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of
practice
- Adhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control
guidelines, and regulatory standardsRequired Essential Skills:
- Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonal
communication skills
- The ability to read, write, & communicate in the English
language is required
- Ability to read/comprehend written instructions, follow verbal
instructions, and proficiency in PC skills
- Physical Abilities - Remain in a stationary position, move
about, move equipment (50-100lbs), pushing, pulling, bending
- Interpersonal Skills - To work effectively with a variety of
personnel (professional and ancillary) to present a positive
attitude and professionalism
- Technical/Motor Skills - Ability to grasp, fine manipulation,
pushing/pulling and able to move about when assisting with
procedures and/or using department equipment.
- Mental Requirements - Must be able to cope with frequent
contact with the general public, customers, and meeting deadlines
under pressure. Must be able to work under close supervision
occasionally as well as working without assistance from other
personnel. Must be able to contend with irregular activity
schedules occasionally and continuous concentration to detail
- Sensory - Visual acuity, ability to effectively
