The Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory,
technical, and communication skills in delivering high-quality
compassionate care to patients and families. The Registered
Professional Nurse assesses patient need and develops a plan of
care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team. The RN
provides direct care, evaluates patient progress, and coordinates
care delivery throughout the patient's episode. The RN develops
specialized skills in the area of patients admitted for medical
conditions. He/She provides care to adult, adolescent, and
geriatric populations with medical conditions. The RN is
accountable for patient and family education to assist in
understanding self-care beyond hospitalization, including lifestyle
changes to support health and healing. The RN is expected to
promote comfort and provide emotional support in a healing
environment. The RN applies nursing knowledge and skills in the
delivery of care. The RN assesses patient and family needs through
active listening and analyzing data obtained through direct
observation, assessment, and health team communication. The RN
creates a developmentally and age-appropriate, culturally relevant,
individualized plan of care to address the nature and scope of the
health problems identified. In collaboration with the patient,
family, physician, and healthcare team, the RN sets goals and
monitors the patient's progress. The RN adjusts the plan based on
patient response or changes in condition. The RN promotes,
advocates for, and protects the health, safety, and rights of the
patient. The RN encourages and builds mutual trust, respect, and
cooperation among team members to achieve the best possible patient
outcomes. The RN teaches others as appropriate and delegates tasks
consistent with the individual’s education, training, and scope of
practice. The RN understands the responsibility to safeguard public
safety through compliance with infection prevention strategies. The
RN motivates the patient and family by teaching them what they need
to continue care and healing at home. The RN assesses patient and
family learning styles and structures sessions to maximize

provided and the patient/family response to the education. The RN
systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing
