Maintenance Team Leader
Position Description
Reporting to the Executive Director, this position is responsible
for coordinating the installation, repair, and maintenance of all
equipment under the jurisdiction of Auxiliary Services. This is a
hands-on supervisory role, combining maintenance responsibilities
with the oversight of the maintenance team. The incumbent works
collaboratively with SUNY Oswego's Facilities, Design and
Construction Department, as well as Auxiliary Services staff and
the management team, to maintain and enhance the physical plant,
including buildings, equipment, and vehicles.
Duties and Responsibilities
Supervise service and repair staff, assign work (including planning
for evening and weekend work), set standards and evaluate quality
and completeness of their work; in addition to the following
personnel functions: orientation and training of new employees,
posts weekly and closedown schedules, tabulates and signs
timecards, grants personal and vacation day requests.
Ensure service and repair staff are adequately trained in all
trades (specifically carpentry, plumbing, masonry, electronics and
refrigeration).
Encourage staff development; brand specific (Champion, Hobart) or
trade specific (refrigeration, plumbing).
Carry out repair and replacement on Dining Services equipment as
outlined by work orders.
Develop and maintain a preventive maintenance program, aimed at
prolonging equipment life and limiting equipment breakdown.
Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with managers
and employees of the department, implementing the values of
Auxiliary Services, specifically customer service and teamwork.
Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with SUNY
Oswego Maintenance Foremen and Directors including project
coordinators from Facilities, Design and Construction
department.
Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with vendor
representatives to maximize customer service.
Meet with Managers periodically and as needed to discuss open work
orders, plan for potential future projects, and receive feedback on
if department is meeting expectations.
Coordinates the schedule for repairs and replacement tasks on
Auxiliary Services equipment per work orders. Also assists
Directors with purchase of replacement equipment as needed.
Respond to emergency requests caused by utility, mechanical or
equipment failure. Also willingly responds to evening and late
night emergency calls.
Works collaboratively and as a facilitator between Auxiliary
Services departments, SUNY Oswego Facilities and off-campus
contracts with projects such as installing, repairing or replacing
floors, ceilings, general construction and stainless steel
repair/modification.
Specify parts and equipment necessary for maintenance of Auxiliary
Services equipment; purchase parts and equipment as needed. Process
payment vouchers to vendors monthly.
Maintain inventory; submit list of items removed from inventory at
the end of each month; shelf new purchases after inventory number
is assigned by Dining Services Clerk/Typist; physically count and
adjust for errors semi-annually.
Ensures that all department refrigeration equipment is maintained,
and the necessary preventive and repair work is performed.
Accept responsibility for all tools, maintenance equipment and
parts, and vehicles of Auxiliary Services.
As required and applicable, purchases winter coats and safety
glasses for those positions specifically covered in accordance with
the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Maintain current work order spreadsheet; send updated copy to
managers and directors at the end of each month.
Coordinate the scheduling of semi-annual Hood cleaning, Grease Trap
cleaning, Fire Suppression system inspections and dryer duct
cleaning by filing the appropriate work orders with State
Maintenance to accommodate these schedules.
Coordinate and convene monthly maintenance meetings between
Auxiliary Services and Facilities Directors.
Receive requests from Dining Managers, Mechanics and Directors in
the months leading up to winter and summer recess for potential
projects. Create a comprehensive list of details needed for the
jobs and prioritize accordingly.
Requests all painting lists from managers and delegates to Paint
Foreman.
Performs semi-annual safety inspections of all resident dining
centers, retail dining locations and college bookstore locations
following the necessary checklist with the Benefits
Coordinator.
Identifies, reports and rectifies all unsafe conditions.
Perform any other jobs assigned by the Executive Director.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate Degree, Trade school Diploma or Licensed
Apprenticeship.
Skill in customer service and supervision.
Basic aptitude in commercial refrigeration, plumbing, electrical
and carpentry trades.
Additional Qualifications Preferred
At least one year of management experience in institutional food
service.
Considerable knowledge and skill in service and repair of
commercial refrigeration systems
Valid, clean NYS drivers' license
Excellent Communication Skills
Strong Organizational Skills
